Tom Parmenter is a correspondent at Sky News

His exclusive interview with four teenage looters just days after the August 2011 riots provoked a huge reaction and revealed just why young people felt justified in getting involved in the unprecedented looting.

He also worked with an anonymous source in south London who wanted to hand in a stash of guns that were hidden away by teenagers for further disorder – Sky News obtained the information that led detectives to a haul of five firearms.

Tom has investigated many aspects of gangs in the UK – he gained exclusive access into the warring street gangs in Liverpool that claimed the life of 11 year old Rhys Jones.

In 2011 Tom also reported live from the Italian jail as Amanda Knox was released and he covered the bizarre re-election of FIFA President Sepp Blatter in Zurich. In London he reported on the Stephen Lawrence murder trial and was on The Mall covering both the royal wedding and the Pope’s visit.

Tom joined Sky News as North of England Correspondent in 2006 where he covered the “disappearance” of schoolgirl Shannon Matthews, the floods in Yorkshire and then Cumbria and many other stories.

Previously Tom has worked as a reporter for ITV Central and ITV Meridian.
