Anjali Rao Joins CNN

CNN today announced the appointment of Anchor/Correspondent Anjali Rao to the network’s Asia Pacific regional headquarters in Hong Kong. Rao is to co-anchor ‘WORLD NEWS ASIA’ alongside Andrew Stevens, joining CNN from Sky News.

Rao is the third signing for CNN from the UK in the past three months, with anchors also recruited from ITN and the BBC. In October Isha Sesay was appointed from ITN and in November Adrian Finnegan’s move from the BBC to CNN’s London office was announced.

Rao joins CNN from Sky News, where she was an anchor. She also presented Five News, produced by Sky. Rao has worked for over a decade at broadcasters in Australia, Asia and Europe. During her career Rao has covered major news stories including the attacks of 9/11, the aftermath of the Bali bombings, the war in Iraq and the South Asian earthquake.

Rena Golden, Senior Vice President of CNN International, said: “It’s great to be starting 2006 with such strong new additions to our anchoring team. Anjali will be an asset to CNN, with her experience of reporting on the most significant global news stories of the past ten years. We’re delighted to add someone of Anjali’s award-winning experience to our Hong Kong based team.”

Anjali Rao said: “I’m looking forward to joining an international news network and returning to Hong Kong. CNN delivers a first class service and I can’t wait to be a part of the award-winning team.”
