In May 1986, league champions Liverpool faced runners-up Everton in the first ever all-Merseyside FA Cup final. It was an unforgettable match, with Liverpool the 3-1 victors although Everton dominated for nearly an hour.
20 years on, the same teams go head-to-head in a live and exclusive match on Sky One, but this time it?s for charity. Kenny Dalglish?s wife Marina is a breast cancer survivor and has launched her own charity to help those who helped her. All proceeds from the game will go towards a centre of excellence at the University Hospital in Aintree.
The team sheets back in 1986 read like a who?s who of Merseyside heroes ? Dalglish, Reid, Hansen, Lineker and Rush. Liverpool claimed their first double, while Everton maintain to this day that the FA Cup and league title went to the wrong Merseyside postcode.
Sky Sports presenters Marcus Buckland and Kelly Dalglish will present all the action from Anfield. Alan Parry will provide the commentary as the Liverpool and Everton legends and their fans relive this historic match.
The Merseyside Charity Match can be seen exclusively on Monday 1 May at 2pm.
