I have heard that Sky News Australia is getting a new news centre which will be shared with fox sports.

New bureaus in Melbourne and news centre. and the whole thing is too mimic Sky News UK. same graphics, similar set etc. also broadcasted in widescreen.

    Nothing new is happening.

There was some sort of Sky function on Thursday night, but it turned out to be nothing more than a morale booster.

Perhaps down the line maybe, but with the audience SNA have- why bother spending more!

SNA is based at Frenchs Forest, a suburb in Sydney’s north. Its about ten minutes from the Seven Network’s main studios, and 10kms from Sydney city centre.

It has another bureau in Canberra, and soon one will open in Melbourne.

Foxtel has announced news channel Sky News will move its operations to the new Foxtel digital TV centre under construction at North Ryde.

The facility is part of a $600 million investment in digital broadcasting which will house Foxtel owned and operated channels, due for completion and occupation by the end of 2005.

Sky News Australia is a joint venture of the Seven and Nine Networks and the UK’s BSkyB network, and is available to 2 million pay TV viewers across Australia.

I almost took up a Market Research job in North Ryde when I was in Sydney. Didn’t in the end because I would have had to have been hanging around the business park waiting for a bus late at night. Maybe I should go back in late 2005…

I think it would be good if Sky News had more affiliates. They should start affiliations with news bereaus for Australian and New Zealand TV stations, radio stations and newspapers to get more local content. One idea I would like is using the newswall to have a fly-over graphic of Australia and New Zealand to point out local news stories of national interest. It could go from Alice Springs to Cairns to Ballarat pretty quickly.

Also, it would be good if the new news centre had 24 hour bulletins and started First Edition at 5AM when many potential Sydney/Melbourne viewers are watching and New Zealanders are having breakfast.

The new SNA studio is still a while off, but according to the SNUK forums a relaunch could occur over the next few weeks which includes a whole new on screen look. My question: will SNA update its graphics etc. when SNUK relaunches or wait until thier new studio is opened?

Traditionally Sky AU wait for it to suit them – I expect that to remain.

If they the did. I doubt it myself. But it would be good if SNUK and SNA relaunched at the same time… new centres and new graphics! it would make it more exciting!!!
