Sky have just made public that Ginny Buckley and Anna Jones from the BBC will join Sky News in September

Ginny currently presents Holiday which is being axed and Anna anchors BBC News 24’s 9am to 1pm slot.

I wonder how prominent they will be.

Perhaps Lisa Aziz will not be the only one to jump before the revamp takes place later this year. There is a large number of female presenters with SKY. I wonder if Juliette, Anna, Emma, Viv, Sheila or Paula will play a big part in the new look channel.

Well we can only assume that Anna will effectively replace Etchers and co-host the 9-12 ‘bit’. As for Ginny, perhaps she will be involved with the evening programming and something that is not ‘serious’ news.

Sky seem to have loads of presenters, maybe a few more current ones will be leaving?

I don’t think they will loose any! I think with the likes of JT, Kay and Julie doing there own type of shows and with Five. I think they need some others to fill gaps.

I think Steve Dixon will go to Five, Full-time. Julie E will stay with Five and only present her own show.

I think they might run thing a bit like this or should I say I hope:

Sunrise 6am til 9am with Emmon & Lorna
Programme 9am til 10am – Julie or Kay
    Today 10am til 1pm – Martin & Emma
    Afternoon 1pm til 4pm – Chris & Anna J
Programme 4pm til 5pm – Julie or Kay
    Live @ 5pm til 8pm – Mark & Anna B
News on the Hour 8pm til 10pm – 1 presenter – Viv or Juliette or Ginny
Newsnight Style Programme 10pm til 12am – JT
    Midnight Hour 12am til 1am – Same as 8pm
Through the Night 1am til 6am

I don’t think that fits in with the plans announced.

One thing is for sure I hope that Juliette, Anna and Chris Roberts will get decent roles in the new set up. They all bring life to the studio.

As for Viv – well we are seeing less and less of her nowadays (dare I say it like Lisa has been off late) She was in at the beginning, so I don’t think she’ll vanish altogether.

Anna Jones may have a morning co-anchor slot – but Ginny? I really don’t know. Perhaps she’ll be the new Emma. However – EC has a strong hard weight journalism background in finance. What serious roles has Ginny had?

Forgive me – as I am not informed on this latest signing’s previous roles.

Some good ideas but unfortunately it doesn’t fit with what Sky announced:

    Julie Etchingham: 7pm-8pm

i don’t think (or want) steve dixon to be permanent on five and not on sky. he’s certainly not said anything to me about that over the last few days, but i think he’s one of the more popular faces on sky at the moment and i know from the emails i get that a lot of SN viewers wouldn’t be too chuffed if he was moved away… myself included!!

Sky have already announced Kay Burley: 12pm-2pm, Jeremy Thompson: 5pm-6.30pm, Julie Etchingham: 7pm-8pm

So we only need to guess the blanks.

    Here’s my guess:
6am – 9am Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes and Lorna Dunkley
9am – 12pm (maybe Sky News Today with Martin Stanford)
12pm – 2pm Program fronted by Kay Burley
2pm – 5pm (Maybe rolling news with Mark Longhurst and Anna Botting)
5pm – 6.30pm Program fronted by Jeremy Thompson
    6.30pm – 7pm (maybe Sportsline)
7pm – 8pm Program fronted by Julie Etchingham

HBox – I do like this idea.

It keeps all the main presenters on screen, and allows the new ones a chance to shine. It also includes my favs Chris and Juliette in the set up.

However – if more presenters are hired – we both may need to revisit this set up.

Whilst there is some intersting stuff in these proposed schedules I doubt the actual line-up will be anything like those, are here is why I believe that to be:
The intention of these ‘destination programmes’ (i.e. Kay Burley, JT and Etchers progs) is to increase viewership AND the length of time people watch. Short, snappy half hour programmes aren’t the most successful method of doing this. So the evening schedule is more likely to have 1 or 2 hours block programmes.

I certainly welcome the idea of more World News content.

Am I the only person that thinks JT is the wrong person for the new ‘Live at Five’. I admire and respect JT. He is my fave anchor without out a shadow of a doubt, save the shadow cast by Etchers. However, ‘fast and pacey’ (the description used my Pollard to describe the programme) JT is not. Shouldn’t he be doing the analysis programme at 7. And Etchers do the fast, pacey stuff. Although this will clash with her 5 news duties. Perhaps Martin Stanford would be better suited to that then. He is Mr Up-with-the-times-fast-techno-gadget-pacey-happy-at-the-newswall-or-behind-the-pod-or-at-the-main-desk-and-even-on-location kind of anchor that springs to mind for me. I suspect that the new ‘Live at Five’ will be something similar to ‘The Fox Report’. JT isn’t a Shepard Smith, better mind you but not the same. Just a thought. (Oh and just because the programme may be similar to a Fox News show doesn’t mean it is Fox News)

And also there is much speculation that Anna Jones is going to fill the gap left by Etchers (indeed I made that comment myself), but what is in it for her. She is essentially doing the same job. Perhaps she will be used in the new ‘prime-time’ line up.

Good point – the amount of programmes in any schedule should not be excessive, yet SKY News may want to be unique and not copy any other news channels. I hope that there are more specialist slots for business, sport and entertainment – and agree that a world news roundup may be good – but in the evening.

Hopefully existing SKY News staff will dominate the evening schedule, and not let those shifting ships get the prime slots straight away.

While Anna Jones is a credible anchor, I hope that she gets a slot either during the day or at the weekend. From what I see off her on N24 – she is not a premiership newsreader. Chris, Martin, Allan, Juliette, David, Viv and Paula are far more weighty. Usually well kent faces are on at night.

One name that is not being mentioned (and I include myself) near enough in this strand is Anna Botting. Along with Julie and Steve – Anna is the future face of SKY News. Her role should be extended in this relaunch.

    Thanks dirkyt.

I agree that there should be a variety of specialist programming without becoming too extensive otherwise it runs the risk of becoming bitty like CNN. I also hope there will be no further additions to the Sky News line-up, it took long enough trying to figure out where I could put everyone in my personal schedule (unless of course you cram them all in and give them half hour slots each, which would be ridiculous of course).

In my opinion, they should swap Jeremy to the 7:00 slot and bring Julie to the 5:00 slot. Either way though, I’m sure it will be a vast improvement on what we have now. And they are sparing no expence with hiring people to research and market the brand and channel. The run-up to relaunch should be interesting with their inevitable promotional campaign.

i think sky should break up the evening programme a small bit.
as said jt from 5 to 6.30pm
    sportsline from 6.30 -7
    7-7.30 rolling news
7.30 – 9 News programme with Julie Etchingham
9-12 evening programme with world news at 9.30 showiz & biz at maybe 10.30. i think a half hour for both showbiz and biz is too much i find the five min’s during the day enough so i wouldnt stick the half hour. i dont know much about this jinny presenter but from what i’ve gathered she’d be a perfect showbiz presenter too. by making these chages it also lets the sky news ireland viewers see News programme with Julie Etchingham from the start rather than cutting in at half seven

I think half an hour for biz news on a weekday is fine, although it may not be everyones liking, business and financial news is important to some people. However, I agree that showbiz does not require a full 30 min slot during the week, a 15 min news bite is acceptable and then a 30 roundup at the end of the week.

No doubt Julie’s programme, and the other main ones too, will be available to view again on Sky News active for Irish viewers or anyone who missed it.
