Where are you from?
My family are Colombian, but I was born in the UK.
How did you get started in broadcasting?
I did a lot of student radio at university, then spent a while freelancing and won the BBC Talent competition.
When was that?
Student radio was from 1998-2001, BBC Talent was in November 2000.
Why News broadcasting?
I had to make a choice between that and jocking music programmes, and sports news has always been my passion.
Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
Radio 1 Newsbeat – that’s my bread and butter, although I still do the odd shift back at News 24 and also Radio 2 breakfast every so often.
What is your Best on-air moment?
Anchoring programmes live from Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup, as well as live tennis commentary from Wimbledon.
What is your Worst on-air moment?
Had a few embarrassing ones – although the Tim Henman won in straight sex moment was always a classic.
What would you like to do before your career ends?
See England win a football World Cup. Or indeed Colombia. Sadly I think I’ll be left waiting…
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I play a lot of sport and keep fit, otherwise travelling – big-time. I’m always planning my next trip.
What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Get as much experience as you can, in as many different media environments (commercial, BBC, foreign) and don’t give up.
A big thanks to David for taking part.
