The Queen visited the BBC’s new Broadcasting House today, in order to declare it officially open.

During her visit, she saw the main TV news studio from the other side of the glass, while presenters Julian Worricker and Sophie Long looked on from inside.

Simon McCoy, who was commentating on the event, described the moment as “one of the most bizarre bits of television that the BBC has produced for some time”.

She also joined Today presenters, James Naughtie and Sian Williams, live on Radio 4 where she gave a short address to declare the BBC’s new home open.

I hope this new building will serve you well for the future and I am delighted to declare it open today — The Queen

The Queen also met BBC news presenters Huw Edwards and Sophie Raworth and weather presenter Carol Kirkwood.
