Martin Brundle joins Sky Sports F1

F1 commentator [[Martin Brundle]] has announced he will join Sky Sports to commentate on their Formula 1 coverage from next season.

Making the announcement on Twitter this morning, Martin said: “Can confirm I’ll be commentating on Sky Sports F1 in 2012. All races live on dedicated F1 channel + more tech features is what motivates me.”

“I’ll be doing grid walks in the future of course, it’s my trademark. It’s not for me announce who else is working where from next season.”

Martin joined ITV when they began Formula One coverage in 1997, initially alongside Murray Walker and then with James Allen from 2002. Brundle joined the BBC’s commentary team alongside Jonathan Legard when they won the rights to show F1 from 2009. Before the start of the 2011 season, Brundle was promoted to lead commentator and was joined by fellow former F1 driver, David Coulthard.

Today will be his last day commentating on a Formula 1 race for the BBC as the 2011 season comes to an end with the final round in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Martin added: “I’m convinced two mighty broadcasters in Sky and BBC head to head at 10 races will be great for F1 fans overall. Be patient, lots happening.”

Brundle has won the RTS Television Sports Award for best Sports Pundit in 1998, 1999, 2005 and 2006.
