England aim to reach the quarter-finals of Euro 2016 this evening as their face Iceland at the Stade de Nice.
Roy Hodgson’s Three Lions secured second spot in Group B following a 0-0 draw against Slovakia in their final game. Despite dominating proceedings, Hodgson’s men couldn’t find a way through, which could be a cause for concern as the tournament progresses.
On paper, Group F seemed to be one of the weakest at the start of the tournament, with only Portugal possessing any real experience in recent major competitions, but an injury-time winner for Iceland in their concluding game against Austria ensured they finished second behind Hungary on goal difference to set up tonight’s clash, and the Portuguese finished in third as a result.
The BBC will air the other Euro 2016 match of the day with Italy hosting Spain at the Stade de France in Paris.
Group E looked like being one of the hardest to predict at the start of the tournament, but Italy were assured of top spot after two games following their victories over Belgium and Sweden.
Group D was one which Spain were favourites to top, but their shock defeat against Croatia in their last match means they instead have to face the side they defeated in the Euro 2012 final.
Coverage starts at 4.30pm on BBC One and BBC One HD, where Gary Lineker presents.
