This was the moment when broadcaster Clare Balding was greeted with huge cheers from the 80,000 strong in the Olympic Stadium this afternoon.

Clare was handing out the flowers in the Women’s Javelin Throw (F37/38) discipline, where Brazil’s Shirlene Coelho won gold.

“I am wearing a dress for my medals ceremony duties. And no, I am not wearing jeans & trainers underneath it,” said the Paralympics presenter via Twitter.

“I’m all dressed up and ready for my flower presenting role at 1pm. Getting nervous now”

When Clare returned from presenting the flowers, she tweeted: “That was absolutely amazing. Thank you to everyone for giving me such a welcome at the stadium. Made me quite teary.”
