Rapper 50 Cent has filed for bankruptcy protection in his home state of Connecticut today.
Court documents filed to a court in the city of Hartford show that Curtis James Jackson III has reported assets and debts which are both between $10 million and $50 million (£6.4 million to £32.1 million)
Last Friday a jury told 50 Cent to pay $5 million to a woman who sued him over a sex tape of hers he had acquired.
He has sold over 30 million albums worldwide and won several awards, including a Grammy Award, thirteen Billboard Music Awards, six World Music Awards, three American Music Awards and four BET Awards.
He has pursued an acting career, appearing in the semi-autobiographical film Get Rich or Die Tryin’ (2005), the Iraq War film Home of the Brave (2006) and Righteous Kill (2008).
