Kelly Rowland will not take part in this week’s X Factor due to a throat infection — the girls mentor will be staying in Los Angeles.

A spokesman for Kelly said: “Kelly is devastated she won’t be here for this weekend’s show. She is extremely ill with a viral throat infection and her doctors aren’t permitting her to fly.

“Kelly will be returning to the show as soon as she has recovered. The girls have been in touch to wish her a speedy recovery and they can’t wait for her to get back.”

The 2008 winner of the X Factor, Alexandra Burke, will step in and mentor the girls this weekend.

Ashley John-Baptiste has quit The Risk.

Ashley said: “It’s been a really tough decision but I have decided to leave The Risk. I don’t believe my future lies in a boyband and it’s not fair on Charlie, Derry and Andy to remain in the band when I am not truly committed to it for the long term.

“I believe The Risk can win The X Factor and I’m backing them all the way. I count them as my friends so I know we’ll stay in touch.

Evicted contestant Ashford Campbell from Nu Vibe will take Ashley’s place.

Tulisa’s girl group, Rhythmix, have changed their name. A statement from The X Factor earlier this week read: “At the request of the charity Rhythmix, the members of the girl group Rhythmix have decided to change their name, a decision which has the support of Syco and TalkbackTHAMES.

The girls, Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirwell and Leigh-Anne Pinnock, announced their new name on Twitter yesterday, saying: “We’re really excited to announce that as of now our new name is Little Mix!

“We came up with this name with Tulisa, and we love it-hope our Little Mixers like it too!”

Frankie Cocozza is the early favourite for the boot this weekend followed by Little Mix at 4/1 and Kitty Brucknell third favourite at 5/1..

Cher Lloyd and Nicola Scherzinger will perform on Sunday night’s results show.
