News Corp to Sell Sky News?

News Corporation has offered to sell Sky News and subsidise the channel in order to buy BSkyB – according to BBC’s Robert Peston.

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp wants to buy the 61% of the company it doesn’t already own

The European Commission has already ruled in favour of the takeover on competition grounds but Ofcom was concerned that the combination of News Corp’s newspapers with Sky News would reduce media plurality.

The Media and Culture Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, could make a statement as soon as tomorrow giving NewsCorp the green light.

News Corp would then have to gain approval from BSkyB’s board.
