Al Jazeera International has signed up former BBC journalist Barnaby Phillips as its European correspondent to be based in Athens. Phillips comes to the channel from his position as the BBC’s South Africa correspondent. He had worked for the BBC since 2001.

Is there a lot of reporters going to Al jazeera that worked on the BBC?
I actually liked his reporting. His stories are really good.
Al Jazeera international is suppost to be coming to Canada. I don’t know when it will air.
Also I liked Raghee. He also has very interesting stories. I hope the BBC doesn’t continue to lose really good reporters or anchors.

Why based in Athens? We rarely see any new stories from that part of Europe? Is this part of Al Jazeera’s strategy to cover regions that other stations ignore?
