Sky News Wins Emmy for Breaking News

Sky News has won the International Emmy for Breaking News.

Sky received the award at a ceremony in New York for their coverage of the July 7 London Bombings.

The judges commended Sky News for their “fast and accurate” reporting of the day’s events.

Sky News Head of News, John Ryley, said: “Sky News’ outstanding live coverage of last summer’s terrorist attacks reinforces the team’s reputation for breaking news and sharp analysis.”

Collecting the award in New York, Sky News’ Chris Birkett said it was a “fantastic” tribute to be “honoured by the international community”.

Sky’s Chris Birkett & Mark Evans said the news team faced “incredible logistical problems” as the capital struggled to cope in the aftermath of the attacks.

“We did a good job then, we think we do a good job most of the time,” said Birkett.

And paying tribute to Sky staff he said: “The people who do that job can’t be here. They’re 3,000 miles away. There are 300 of them and this is an award for them.”

Sky News beat off competition from BBC News 24, who were also nominated for their coverage of 7/7, Argentina’s Artear-Canal 13 and Al-Arabiya of Dubai.
