Sources at TVForum suggest that there’s going to be a few changes to the new look in the new year – including a Countdown to the hour.

Not sure how true this rumour is – i’m inclined to take it with a portion of salt personally.

I heard Sky are reviewing the current look and ratings and will make changes in February (the early part of the year at least)

I think that it was inevitable that changes were going to be made. Parts of the new look just don’t work at all.

Take for example, appointment to view scheduling. Yes, in principle its a good idea, and its good to see Sky returning to how they were pre-2001. However, a whole hour of ATV is not necessarily a good thing, and it results in no news headlines or round-ups between 6.30pm and 9.00pm – that’s almost three hours.

The way I’d like to see it is:

06.00 Sunrise with Eamonn Holmes & Lorna Dunkley

09.00 Sky News Today with Martin Stanford, Anna Jones & Angali Rao 09.00 News Round-up With Presenter 1
    09.15 In-depth News with presenters 2 + 3
    09.27 Weather
    09.30 News Round-up w/ presenter 1
    09.35 In-depth News with presenters 2 + 3
    09.45 News Headlines
    09.46 Business News
    09.50 Sports News
    09.57 Weather
Pattern continues in next two hours
Each of the presenters would do news round-ups for 1 hour in the programme

12.00 Lunchtime Live with Kay Burley
Largely, I think this is OK as it is. A good mix for a lunchtime news prog.

14.00 Sky News Today with Ginny Buckley, Alan King & Mark Longhurst
    14.00 News Round-up With Presenter 1
    14.15 In-depth News with presenters 2 + 3
    14.27 Weather
    14.30 News Round-up w/ presenter 1
    14.35 In-depth News with presenters 2 + 3
    14.45 News Headlines
    14.46 Business News
    14.50 Sports News
    14.57 Weather
Pattern continues in next two hours
Each of the presenters would do news round-ups for 1 hour in the programme

17.00 Live at Five with Jeremy Thompson & Anna Botting

18.00 Sky News at Six with Jeremy Thompson & Anna Botting

    18.30 Sportsline

19.00 Sky News Tonight with Jeremy Thompson & Anna Botting/ Sky News Ireland

19.30 The Sky Report with Julie Etchingham

20.00 Sky News Tonight with Gillian Joseph & Chris Roberts

20.30 World News Tonight with James Rubin & Chris Roberts

21.00 Sky News Tonight with Gillian Joseph & Chris Roberts

22.00 Sky News at Ten with Gillian Joseph & Chris Roberts / Sky News Ireland

    22.30 Sportsline

23.00 Sky News Tonight with Gillian Joseph & Chris Roberts

    23.30 Sky Press Preview

I think the weekend programmes are fine as they are, although I’d really like to see Technofile have its own 30 minute slot rather than 15 minutes within a programme.

I don’t think that its Eamonn Holmes that is the problem with Sunrise. The problem as I see it lies with the production team. They are obviously deciding that as he’s a massive football fan, they’ll let him talk about it.

Something that they obviously need to change. I personally don’t watch it – I’m usually still in bed then anyway – but from what I have seen, it’s all sport it doesn’t really set the agenda as advertised.

    Quite disappointing really.

I fear that I may switch to the Beeb if things don’t look up sooner or later.

I’d like them to treat Sky News at Ten as a news bulletin, to compete with the BBC’s 10 o’clock news and ITV’s nightly news. They could have specific anchors for just this programme instead of using Chris and Gillian. Jeremy and Anna would be great at this.

Also, they should bring back the pictures ‘montage’ of the days stories that used to end Sky News at Ten. It used to be really effective when they had this montage accompanied by the theme music. At the moment they just seem to crash out of News at 10 to the weather. If this became a programme within itself, it would be a nice way to end this separate segment before the weather and sportsline.

Martin seems to have been coping really well with live at five, so maybe have him to replace Jeremy. The Sky Report could become part of the new 5 till 8 slot, so we could reunite Martin and Julie who I thought were one of the best partnerships pre-relaunch.

    Just my 2 cents worth!

I actually think thats more of a problem with Burley’s show. Everytime I’ve watched it, her main feature has been sport – interviews with Wigan chairman Dave Whelan, Patrick Vieira, the Arsenal chairman, going to Wembley, devoting the show to Roy Keane, George Best, talk of World Cup bids/seedings – it just goes on. And from the way she speaks, I don’t think she’s any more than a casual sports fan anyway!

And there are news headlines in the ATV shows – even WNT has a quick read with Gillian/Chris.

The only real problems I’ve had since the relaunch are Ginny Buckley (she’s no better than what they had) and the neverending chats with the sports presenters.

I hope they only make minor changes as some of the ATV shows like the Sky Report are very good, as is WNT in theory.

They just need more news updates or a newshour in between the two shows.

I’m supprised Sky haven’t used ‘Fox’ Format for ATV of having the presenter tell us whats coming up in there show, then cross to another presenter for a news update before his show starts, Same at half past, and maybe quater too or something.

I personally think the ATV stuff is pretty good as it is. It is refreshing to be able to sit down and watch a programme featuring news and reports you haven’t already seen about 4 times that day!

However having said that there is probably a slight problem in having The Sky Report and WTN together, as alot of people would be tuning in for their day’s news around that time. Perhaps just one brief news round-up at 8pm before going to Mr Rubin, but not any more than that.

    Hi guys
    AJ
First off,(I don’t know, ifyou watched Eamonn Holmes on GMTV b4 he came to Sky) but, first and foremost, he’s a Man U nut so, you shouldn’t be surprised if he concentrates on United as much as he does.
And Kay: I meean, come on guys, i’m only on here a little over a year but, in my time watching Sky News, I’ve come to know that KB is as much an Arsenal nut as Eamonn is United.
Re the line-up This is My Utopian(Ideal for me, but I’ll never get it I’ll never get it I know. Some based on old timelines.
9-1 Martin, Kay and A.N. other(Ginny, Anna Jones.
1-5 MY n01 lady, Anna Botting with Jane Secker(I did say some was Utopian)
    5-8 Tommo+Julie
    8-Midnight ne1
Transfer out, to Beeb, Alan King, Michelle Clifford, Tim Abrahams and Francis Wilson.
Bring home, Sasha Upton, Hannah O’Sullivan, Emily Maitless, Layla Debelge, Carrie Frais, Jane Lewis, Sheila Jansen, Allie Jack to name but a few.
There for what it’s worth is what I think.

Ahh well the holidays over and we can’t have Sunrise being viewable for a whole year. So with effect from last Monday they’ve let Eamonn H take over the show again. GMTV must give a sigh of relief ever time they see him performing on Sky.

Sorry Sky you have made the wrong choice.

The dreaded BBC News 24 is getting better – beware
