Eastenders star Gary Beadle, who plays Paul Truman in the BBC soap, is set to take a two-month break, The Sun reports today.

Insiders report that Gary has been forced to take time off the show following arguments over him not learning his lines and, as a result, was threatened with the sack by Louise Berridge, the BBC’s soap executive.

Viewers will see Paul leave Walford soon after Janine Evans is sent to prison after being wrongly accused of Laura Beale’s murder.

And insider said: “He should be thankful he still has his job. Gary is a good actor – this must be why producers decided to give him a second chance.”

A spokesman confirmed: “He is coming back.”

Michelle Fowler is to return to Walford – but the actress who originally played her won’t be back.

Having been in the US for the past ten years, Michelle will come back to save her daughter Vicki from the influence of Dirty Den.

Not returning is Susan Tully, who played Michelle since the soap began in 1985 but now has a successful career as a television director.

An insider told the Daily Star that a newcomer would be cast in the role, in the same way that Kim Medcalf replaced Daniella Westbrook as Sam Mitchell.

Eastenders star Gary Beadle (Paul Trueman) has become the latest star to be axed from the soap, the News of the World reports today.

BBC bosses – who claim that Beadle’s character has “run out of steam” – are discussing how to write him out of the show and have said he will definitely be gone by the end of the year.

An insider said: “He’s devastated he’s going. It’s given him a real jolt. He loved working for the show and is putting on a brave face.”

The axing comes as Beadle is set to return from his ‘two-month break’, forced upon him for not learning his lines.

A BBC spokeswoman confirmed yesterday: “The producers have been having discussions with Gary about his character for some time.”

Many other cast members have also left the Square or been sacked this year. The others include: Charlie Brooks (Janine Evans), Shaun Williamson (Barry Evans), Todd Carty (Mark Fowler), Lucy Benjamin (Lisa Fowler), Elaine Lordan (Lynne Hobbs), Hannah Waterman (Laura Beale), Sid Owen (Ricky Butcher), Lucy Speed (Natalie Evans) and Tony Caunter (Roy Evans). Other favourites including Barbara Windsor (Peggy Mitchell), Steve McFadden (Phil Mitchell) and Kacey Ainsworth (Little Mo) are on extended absence.

Just read that Ash has also quit the soap.
