Margaret Thatcher Dies: BBC, ITV, C4 & Sky Atlantic to air documentaries

TV broadcasters will air special documentaries this evening following the death of Baroness Margaret Thatcher.

The former Prime Minister died this morning at the age of 87 following a stroke.

Her spokesman said: “It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning.”

She became the Conservative MP for Finchley, north London in 1959, and was prime minister from 1979 to 1990. She retired from the Commons in 1992.

The BBC will air a 90-minute long programme from 8.30pm to 10pm on BBC One.

ITV will broadcast a hour-long programme at 10.35pm – ‘Margaret Thatcher the Woman that Changed Britain’ – Alastair Stewart takes a look at Baroness Thatcher’s impact on Britain and the world before and during her time in Number 10 and the decades that followed.

Channel 4 will air ‘Maggie and Me’ from 8-9pm. The programme features Jon Snow’s personal recollections of his encounters with Baroness Thatcher – the woman, the leader, the icon, the hate figure – the biggest British political figure of his lifetime.

Sky will broadcast a hour-long documentary on Sky Atlantic at 8pm – The programme looks back on the life and career of the UK’s first female Prime Minister.
