11 Year Old Robert Holohan is facing his third night away from home tonight. He has been missing since Tuesday. See more on http://www.rte.ie/news/2005/0106/holohanr.html
Sky’s reporting on the event is awful as usual. One reporter in the south while Eibhlin is still relaxing since before x-mas. No rush next week is time enough! And you too Gr?inne i”m sure ye need the rest from a hard years work. I know the tsunami takes up all the stories but this isn’t even making it onto the uk service at all. Makes a change from Sky’s coverage of The Soham case

I have to agree with Newsroom on this, believe it or not. SNI was launched in what, June? We all had high hopes for it. I was under the impression that this 24 hour news channel would bring in quite a lot of continuous coverage. After eight months they still only have two half hour bulletins Monday to Friday. It appears they’ve went backwards. I don’t think they ever got back the 50,000 or so viewers they had on the first night.

With the way this country is going with regards to both economic and population growth the prospect of a 24 hour Irish News Channel becomes all the more economical and in demand. However, whilst I had thought that Sky News would be the first to introduce this, especially a continuous evening News Service (the launch of Sky News Ireland was a very exciting development in this regard) it appears that I was wrong. I thinkt hat within the next decade there will be a TV station in Ireland designated to the News, however I think that when it happens, it will be RT? that introduce it or else another independent Irish service funded by an Irish entrepreneur and not Sky.

    — I think you should re-watch RT? for Irish affairs Tippguy, I mean, those web-sites you’ve been giving us are all RT? ones. To anothe rpoint, left-wing conspiracy students can create News Web-sites on the internet, Sky News Ireland still have no web-site that I’m aware of.

i took your advice and tonight and watched rte news tonight. the biggest waste ever. on the missing 16 year old in the midlands they had a reporter something fanning who was on the phone to ann doyle but ann asked her a question but she was too busy talking to someone beside her. eventually 10 minutes later when she’d finished she gave ann 2 min’s of her time. So i dont see why mr.byrne wanted the fourm readers to watch rte news when it is equally as bad. but at least sky have brains rte are just like sheep they are coping all skys ideas. they now do the map thing that sky do then show a pic of the reporter. so sad. and as for tv3 ok they do their best concidering they get no gov. funding or anything from the public but they have no reporters off the island not even a northern reporter. and the only reason i give rte web quotes is because no other website gives you free access ( that i know of) and anyway the people in the snuk fourms give quotes from bbc. its the same thing.

RTE are a far better news service then that rubbish Skynews Ireland.
TV3 are not wanting of money, the crowd that own ITV are major shareholders in TV3 which is why TV3 suddenly got Cornation Street from RTE.

TV3 are crap by the way!

OK. Maybe you should try it today (saturday) – watch the “SIX-ONE News” – and then put on Sky News @ 7PM – see what happens – and then tell me, which is the better one to watch from an Irish perspective. Then try it again on Monday – watch SIX-ONE and then Sky News Ireland @ 7PM – and then tell me which is of better quality – hey why not watch TV3 News as well, why not watch Nuacht TG4- bring back those haunting days of Irish.

TV3 are not wanting of money, the crowd that own ITV are major shareholders in TV3 which is why TV3 suddenly got Cornation Street from RTE.

Hold your horses – its Granada that bought the shares in TV3, which is why Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Hearbeat, The Royal etc. went to TV3. It also allowed TV3 to bring in Granada made shows like “Cracker” – My favourite of all time.

TV3 are crap by the way!

I beg to differ. I do like to watch TV in general. The only programmes I watch on RTE are the News, sometimes Prime Time, the odd film and The Sopranoes (but thats only because they get it long before E4). On TV3, I watch a lot more: The Shield, Cracker, Las Vegas, Huff, Sex and the City, I’m Alan Partridge and the odd film (deffinitely more than RT?) and I’m embarrassed to say, I do watch Coronation Street  . I think the TV Licence is far too much and if it must be 155 Euro a year, then how about giving it to independent media like TV3. It makes my blood boil. We’re paying Plank (pat Kenny’s) six-figure-sallery.

It ain’t fair to compare the 6.1 to SNI 7pm. Why not compare Skys 10pm bulletin with either RTE News on Two or else RTE@9pm??

I fear the worst at this stage too. The poor parents and family.

They’re making a re-creation of his last movements today (weather permitting) which should be on the news tonight. (TV3 were doing good coverage yesterday).
