BBC News 24 has claimed to be the channel of choice for viewers last month.

The month was populated with several major news events, including Live 8, the Olympic Bid result, the IRA announcing an end to its armed campaign and the terror attacks on London.

News 24 reported a reach of 15 million viewers through July – 39% of multichannel homes – compared to 13 million (34%) for Sky News and 8.8 million (23%) for the ITV News Channel.

The station is also ahead on weekly reach, currently averaging 5 million to Sky’s 4.6 million.

Wo…that’s a surprise. News 24’s straps and settings aren’t as good as Sky’s, nor the presenters. But i suppose the BBC has an underlying credibility with the public, that perhaps Sky News does not have. Nevertheless, the ratings stated above don’t take into account pubs. During the London attacks, I heard that my local pubs at least, were showing Sky News and not News 24.

News 24 straps are much better than Sky’s. Watch the same news story on News 24 and then on Sky but muted and tell me from which channel you know most about the story.

They may tell more information, but in terms of appearance, Sky wins outright. The writing on News 24 looks huge.

Real interesting this. Admittedly I have found N24 more bearable recently. The big question surely is if this will have any effect on the re-launch?

I tend to agree with Steven. Watching News 24 is like watching the Guardian and Sky News is like watching the Sun, with ITV News being the Beano.

Maybe one reason why N24 is more bearable is that it doesn’t have Kay Burley working for it. Seems to me N24 is not personality nor tabloid driven. The comparison daved2424 makes seems to me to very valid.

but isn’t that just the ratings from multichannel homes what about the rest. i think news24 is so boaring to watch. if this new studio is as good as people are saying sky are going to wipe the board wiith ratings.

    A studio doesn’t make a news station!

It does make it easy on the eye..Sky just seems more fun than News 24. But i’m in no doubt that the BBC has fundamentally more credibility with the public.
