I don’t know the ratings, can anyone give me a site wthat shows irish tv ratings?

But you can judge them by the adds that they show

Today at 10PM, there was an advert for “Hot Tubs Ireland” I’ve seen adds for “S -Rooms” – Newbridge, kildare – I mean, they must be handing them out at this stage.

I’ve read articles that SNI’s current ratings are in single thousand figures a.k.a. – less than 10,000.

it looks like sni is here to stay according to an article in todays sunday world magazine about newcomers to tv.

Unfortunately for the station, the news show got off to an abysmal ratings start, but things have improved dramitically over the last two months of the year.

Hopefully this is someway right and sni will be here for good. Is there any way of finding out the ratings?

I don’t know to be honest, but I still think they really need to change their attitude.

What exactly is wrong with sni? It reports Irish news doesn’t it? What do you want?

More reporters, I mean there are only a very small handful of them, how about more than just 2 half hour bulletins a day (at bad times I must emphasise). How about, actually have some bulletins at the week-end (there are currently none that I am aware of).

So, how can I justify myself watching Sky News Ireland mon-fri. Where at 7PM, I like to eat dinner. At 10PM I like to be out somewhere nice or else siting at home watching a good US Drama with a beer or an Irish Coffee. And if I did watch the news at those poor schedules, how could I justify myself switching to the state broadcaster RT? on Saturdays and Sundays – answer is, I can’t watch any unprofessional news service like that, and I believe that if sky news UK was like that, and not a 24/7 award wining news service, you’d be a member of the BBC News Forums instead.

So they are the fundemental reasons as to why I watch RT? news for Irish affairs. Don’t get me wrong, I watch Sky News in the mornings and most of the time with my lunch and flick through it most evenings, but watching Sky News Ireland is a rare occurrence. They don’t do week-end news, so I can’t wait to see what Sky News Ireland have on offer for the xmas, although, in all fairness,m I don’t watch the news over christmas full stop.

Can you see my point of view on this now? And I’m sure my most of my fellow countrymen (including Newsroom, believe it or not) would agree with me on this subject.

Ok, I can kind of see your point, but I think it needs to find its feet a bit too. It’s a whole new bunch of people over there.

I occasionaly watch SNI at work if I get the chance, and for one hours worth of news per night it’s not too bad, but yes there is room for improvement.

As for being a member of this forum, it’s because I work for Sky. Sky News itself is very good, but a bit tabloidy and they have a tendancy to sit on a story based on pure speculation, and they can make a ‘Breaking News’ for over a minute when all the news they have is perhaps one line of text off the wires, but then they all do that. As for the BBC, News 24 isn’t great, but it’s packed programmes are good and add variety to what can otherwise be a very mundane schedule. Somewhere inbetwen would be good, and I know that view is a common one. And ITV News…. a monkey could do better.

If you’re not watching it during the week why would you bother at the weekend anyway. It seems like a flawed arguement to me. Surely the reason for the bulletin being on at the current times is to offer choice, something different to RTE.

Christ I hate repaeating myself but the argument was that I STOPPED watching SNI mainly down to that point, that they don’t do week-end news.

RTE Have bulletins at 1PM, 6.1, 9PM and there is a news tonight on RTE2, I’m sure I’ve missed one or two of there news updates. TV3 which I admire for who they are and the quality TV that they show, there news isn’t great quality and they have no resopurces for any story outside of Ireland, they are a small indepenedent TV station that get no subscriptions or TV lisence, yet even they manage to put on three half hour bulletins mon-fri plus many updates throughout the day and they have two half hour bulletins on sat and sun plus political news programmes. Now tell me, what choices are Sky offering that the others havenb;t already conquered.

but I think it needs to find its feet a bit too. It’s a whole new bunch of people over there.

Which is why I’ve given it the 6 months and it still hasn’t managed to get week-end bulletins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – If it is really a whole bunch of new guys over here, then maybe you should send some english people over here and show the Sky News Ireland people how it should be done.

    it’s not too bad

I agree, considering the poor respurces that they have. I’m not slamming their quality of reporting, it is high quality, but we have a case where Grainne is doing 3 person job and the 6 reporters are doing a 20 man job. From all the ditorial C***-ups they seem to have, maybe the 3 people in the backround are short-staffed too.

Sky News itself is very good,

Thats what I’m saying, its a shame that SNI has been relaitvely pathetic in general. Maybe they should employ me, I’ll sort it out

I think everyone agrees with you mr byrne. But if you ask me tv3 is the same as sni. mon – fri is good but then its just downhill. ok at least tv3 have something its not great a half hour on saturday and 15 mins on sunday but its better than sni. as for tv3’s “polotics” programme its a complete farce. Halligan is so biased and anti fianna fail. shes just a bit easier on them now that she got a 1 to 1 with Bertie. But she must of got a bit pis*ed off when boulton got the very same the folllowing week. i think sunday with A.B. is just as good. now halligan has run out of politican guests so she has u.n., etc on. Boulton gets regular interviews with bertie which makes it just as good and its professional.

I don’t watch Sunday with Adam Boulton because its mainly and understandable English politics and I’m not allowed to vote there.

I don’t watch the TV3 political Sunday show because I don’t like halligan either. Even her voice and looks P*** me off big time. Actually she is the most irritating women on TV in the world, that I have ever seen. Very strange too, her south county Dublin posh accent and yet she seems to be so socialist (I think its just put on so she could land herself a front line job). And as for TV3 News, their target market are “working class people” aged I think it was 20-45 around that – therefore, its left-wing, working class and biased and doesn’t coincide with my point of view and desire for a professional news service, which I why I don’t watch TV3 News, but I do admire what they’ve done and still think that their news service in general comes out in front of SNI, but of course the quality of their reports are for the most part terrible yet there are some very good people there, Clare Byrne is great and I think Paul Byrne is a very good reporter (Yep, the Byrne Clan always seems to come out in front, good thing I’m a member )

By the way, its Xmas eve tomorrow (last time i checked) which means I’m going xmas shopping with all the other morons who forgot, so Merry Christmas to you all, look forward to arguing on these forums in the new year
