I don’t understand the intensive coverage of the whale in London by Sky NEWS. It seems such very detailed coverage is suitable for National Geographic channel . Do we live in world where this is the sole news item ?
Lots of presenters and reporters around London today. Jonathan Samuels: In Central London for most of the day, now in Tilbury near the Estuary. Victoria Bryning: On package from Central London Alex Rossi: On package from Central London Kay Burley: Was in Central London, now in Canvey Island Steve Dixon: On the phone from East London. Ursula Errington: On the phone from Putney Bridge, broke news of a dead porpoise. Martin Stanford: Live solo from 10-5, joined now by Juliette Foster.
The Skycopter has been above proceedings all day, with only refuelling breaks.
Cant believe the amount of resources invested in the whale coverage – even bringing Her Royal Queeness Burley out on her weekend off. And I wonder just how much noise the helicopter produced hovering the whole time and wonder how much it added to the whales’ distress. Are we going to get wall to wall coverage for a week if the whale dies?? or maybe live pictures from the autopsy – exclusive to Sky News ?

Had this whale turned up in any other City than London it would have been about item 23 on the ‘national’ news. As ever, any event within the M25 stockade automatically triggers instant over-reaction together with peurile and inaccurate assumption masquerading as ‘reporting’.
