    Hello again. This forum is for fans and admirers of David and his work. And discussions around the news that he reports.

    Right now I am in the Pays Basque so am Sky-less, so any news of the one and only Mr Chater would be appreciated.

    For first time visitors, the forum archives have a lot on the old DC forum, some of it good and some of it daft…

    Is David nominated for any awards (RTS etc) and if not, why not – who the hell are the judges?!

    No RTS nominations for David this year. Sky’s Royal Television Society nominations this year are;

    Innovation – ‘reporting the courts’ (that’s their re-enactment stuff)

    News Event – ‘war in Iraq’

    Specialist Journalism – Tim Marshall (waits for eagleeye to vent her spleen… )

    And also there’s the News Channel of the Year award, which Sky have held for the past two years.

    Full list of nominations is avaliable here;

    I don’t have that much to say as I’m pretty speechless, Skybaby. It was predictable. Specialist journalism and intl journalist of the year categories – nothing. Rageh Omaar will win for his photogenic war coverage and immense journalistic effort writing his book (part 1) for the rest of the year….. All BBC and a few ITV and nothing for Emma Hurd or Stuart Ramsay either. Total farce. My sympathies not only to David – who probably isn’t exactly falling over with surprise, but has to be disappointed after all the immense, superb effort he put in – and to all those deserving non BBC /C4 journalists who’ve lost out yet again, for the crime of not working for politically correct ‘mediaaa’ channels.

    Btw Omaar irritates me far more than Tim M ever could… At least Tim doesn’t have a celebrity agent etc etc after covering just one conflict. (what’s happened to that green puke emoticon?!)

    He is clearly a far better journalist than media-party networker. Having said that, I’d like to add my note of disappointment regarding no personal awards as nobody deserves a bauble more than the ever excellent Mr Chater and if he didn’t win for his work last year, well what’s a man to do!

    I also have not seen him since his stint in Saudi Arabia covering the hajj although I don’t watch that much. Is he perhaps away?

    DC was just on ‘All New Naughtiest Blunders 10’ it was the live he was doing when the Troops took Baghdad.

    A few Iraqi’s were holding up a sign saying go back you U.S wankers and DC started reading most of it, but didn’t finish.

    Now I’m really p**sed off that I’m Skyless. Any way you can get that footage on to this website?

    I could really use a good laugh. It sounds great.

    Everyone else’s birthday cakes are on the forums….I think that David’s birthday is soon (March??) as according to Sky PR he turned 50 in Baghdad (lucky lad eh? ), I think before the bombs started falling….hope it’s less stressful this time around, but what date is it?

    I think the press release last year was around mid march ie that DC had turned 50 in the “romantic” Palestine Hotel in Baghdad, but I stand to be corrected. Doesn’t Johnnie know?

    I know he will be 51 this month – but thats it.

    He did a package about Police numbers today. (not in vision)

    Its a shame they didn’t send DC down to Haiti to cover the current affair in the country.

    David always sounds out of place when he is covering a domestic story. its like Michael Wilson doing the sport.

    Although Andrew Wilson seem to be enjoying himself in Haiti. Andrew has been covering domestic stories for about a year now.

    I was reading Salam Pax’s blog on w http://www.dear_raed.com w and he spoke of this week being the first time in 25 years that Shia muslims in Iraq are able to celebrate the murder of the Prophet Muhammad’s descendant, Ali al-Hussein and his followers in Karbala (an abbreviated version of the story is well written on the website; this historical episode details the origins of the Shia/Sunni schism). David covered the Kurdish Iraqis going on hajj for the first time in decades recently. I thought that it would be really good if he were sent there to cover this particular week, although sadly as soon as I read Salam Pax’s blog I thought “oh no, there will be more suicide bombs”. Today’s news is totally dreadful.

    I watched the report about Al Qaeda/Jordanians/Saudi/whichever fanatic suicide bombers killing over 100 people in Karbala and Baghdad on french TV news. I hope that Sky didn’t just “Fox” this one. David would be the right person to cover this Shia commemoration as not only is he a great reporter but has immense cultural sensitivity and respect for others’ beliefs.

    On a happier note, I hope that if his birthday is soon that he will have a really good one to make up for last year’s one.

    Tim Marshall did the main package, also was on the Wall with JT. Joined Julie in the studio on ‘today’.

    Sky did a live with a Sky Producer this morning and have been doing a live with a Fox correspondent during the rest of the day.
