Where are you from?

How did you get started in broadcasting?
I worked as a tea girl at my father’s newspaper when I was 14 (in school holidays and at weekends). I started work full time at another newspaper – the Louth Standard – when I was almost 18.

Why News broadcasting?
It’s in the blood!

Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
GMTV – I was US correspondent based in New York. Sky News in the nineties… and BBC Look North before Five News and Sky News again.

What is your Best on-air moment?
Hosting the Bush/Gore election live for GMTV.

What is your Worst on-air moment?
The autocue and computer crashing at the same time seconds before I went to air with news of the Pope’s death on Five. (hopefully it didn’t actually show on air !)

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Chill out with my husband and 2 year old daughter; ski in the winter.

What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Go for it! When I told my careers advisor I wanted to work in television, he said it would be much more sensible to become a teacher.
