Like all seeming progress it makes itself necessary, though only time will tell if it really makes our lives easier. There have been many things sold in the name of progress that have only made our lives harder in the long run. The bright new future we were promised turned out to be a dog, despite all of our ‘advances’ we lead unhappy lives, work longer hours, owe more money, have less leisure time. It is hard to change direction, hard to fight seeming progress. There is a group organising a global sick day (http://phoenixiscoming.blogspot.com) over the internet as a protest against the corporations and their strangulation of the human spirit. So I guess the internet can be a tool for public opinion as well as an instrument of business.
