IMO, all ITV news coverage has always been the ‘poor relation’ of the genre.

Primarily self inflicted, with their over reliance on trivia and puerile reporting.

Perhaps a bit harsh! The station was vastly underfunded and as a result relied on repeating information every half an hour, which was too irritating to watch. Plus did they ever go live to a reporter!

    Perhaps a bit harsh!

My remarks cover the whole period back to ITN’s inception some 50 years ago, to date.

I’d hav eto agree with all the negative comments about ITV however Sky’s content and approach is even worse. Their only saving grace is a slick, up-to-the-minute presentation but their agenda is strictly downmarket and ultimately titillation driven. Don’t forget thier sister is The Sun

Probably more accurate to say their step sister. Same father, different mothers

I’m sure those losing their jobs will appreciate your sympathetic views.

Critisism of the diabolical output of the channel has nothing to do with being sympathetic for people losing their jobs.

Whats going to happen to the likes of Felicity Barr? She’s the only reason I watch the News Channel!

Yeah. I should think Felicity and Steve are gonna stay – Felicity to do the sport on 1030 and fill in elsewhere and Steve virtually has a full time job covering on the lunchtime (and evening) bulletins anyway as well as doing the odd weekend ones…

So, do you tape the last show at 5.30 pm? Or make some photos?

And there we are, the end of the ITV News Channel, the first victim of the funding question between BBC and Sky.

I thought that digital television was meant to give us choice, not narrow choice down

    It’s a shame really.

JT just wished News Channel staff “best wishes”.
