Nick Phipps, Programme Editor of the ITV Evening News, is to join Sky News as Executive Producer of its flagship strand, Live at 5, in September.

Nick (32) joined ITN as a graduate news trainee in 1994 from Oxford. He was an Output Producer on News at Ten, Science Producer and Europe Producer, working on major stories from the Kosovo War through to the downfall of Milosevic.

Nick has been a Programme Editor at ITN since 2001. He revamped ITV’s Lunchtime News before being appointed the Programme Editor of ITN’s Evening News on ITV.

Nick Pollard, Head of Sky News, said, “Sky News is delighted to have attracted such a news heavyweight. Nick is a talented, innovative producer who will ensure Live at Five is both authoritative and exciting.”

Nick Phipps said: “Leaving ITN after ten years was a tough decision to make, but Sky News is going places. The coming year is going to be an exciting time at Sky and I?m looking forward to playing my part, working with Live at Five?s talented production team.”

Nick replaces Mark Calvert as Executive Producer on Live at 5. Mark has been appointed Editor Five News by Five and Sky News.

It would look like a good day for Sky News.
