READING Borough Council has been accused of discriminating against disabled people in favour of big corporations for the second time in six weeks.

The sight of national media vans, from ITN, ITV and Globecast, operating on behalf of the BBC, hogging the disabled parking spaces outside Reading Crown Court in The Forbury, left drivers of disabled passengers fuming on Friday.

But this week borough community action leader Cllr Tony Page pledged to create a policy to stop it happening again.

He said the council will consult with police, and measures could range from the power to remove vehicles causing an obstruction to a statement on the number of spaces TV crews can occupy.

The broadcast media was awaiting the sentencing of Maryann Leneghan’s killers – just as six weeks earlier the verdicts had been expected.–name_page.htmlLink
