He is still Security Correspondent, but he is also an expert on the Middle East. While he is in Jerusalem to provide analysis of the current crisis, he will simply be referred to by the more generic World Affairs Correspondent title.

it shouldnt be an issue, as thousands of wheelchair-bound people travel abroad every day - but i wonder how it felt for frank to be on his first trip abroad as a correspondent since the shooting.. and back to the middle east as well.

..lots of different feelings i presume.

Since this thread has been started, Frank Gardner has been to Sharm el-Sheik to do a http://www.thisistravel.co.uk/travel/activities/In-at-the-deep-end_article.html?in_article_id=47379&in_page_id=9special programme on diving at the resort. It's clear that he has mixed emotions but that he bears them openly, honestly and without wallowing.

It's interesting to note that Mr Gardner feels he can do a programme such as this though. His is a steely integrity, but it does put him in a similar bracket to other working journalists who do other work off the hack-track.

It's positive that he's back in the middle east his experience is welcome out there. It'd be be better if Barbara Plett and Orla Guerin were back in the region too. Journalists with the background and conviction to report the truth are what the beeb need in the middle east.

I think Frank Gardner can overcome any difficulties he faces out in Israel. One thing for sure he won't let himself be pushed around by the israelis in that strife torn country.
