Hiya Charlotte and thank yoooo Kev

I was just going to say

"has anyone seen the c(h)at in the hat"? and here you go telling me he's blowing things up!! Sounds like he did a better job than Peter Sellers in The Party, but...  They'd better watch out in London at Sky not to p*ss him off as he's going to return with some "new journalism skills"!

They probably won't let him back into the country, with experience like that he could be a terrorist.

David doesn't need defending; his record since his ITN days speaks for itself. He's a one off.

I've seen one or two of his latest reports at a friend's house. He's always different and always interesting. I like the focus on southern Iraq even if it's basically army based and his freedom of movement must be quite limited.

Like others I think he's far and away the most interesting reporter at Sky News and I couldn't agree more he's a one off.

If you don't like him or have any appreciation of his work, why don't you just leave this forum for others who do to discuss what he's up to or the silly stuff that is funny like his latest hairstyle or whatever. I like it long too just for the record

Well I haven't seen too much of what David has been doing in Iraq of late. But what I can say is that what I have seen I have been dissapointed with. Sky should have somebody in Baghdad.; As an estimate CNN have 4 correspondents in the capital. What David is doing is fair enough but not at the current time.

David has just reached Baghdad. Allan King did a live with him from the central area where that arch is. It seems he must have flown up with the Brit army who then provided an escort in from the airport on what David said was a very dangerous road.

The contrast with how he looked when he got to southern Iraq is quite marked. Right now he looks very stressed, very hot and extremely tired. It must have been quite a trip. Hope that Sky still has that posh hotel bureau where he can rest up (and, er, have a decent shower, poor bloke!...and maybe a good drink!). The body language changes as soon as it's Baghdad. So much more tense. My guess is he's going to try to get around the city to report and I wish him luck and godspeed. Stay safe....

We all have preferences, although this thread is for the appreciation of an extremely good reporter. Start a JT thread if you fancy it. He might be a good anchor but isn't comparable to DC in the field.

In other words, if you haven't got anything good to say.... u know the rest.

Secondly, thanks EE for keeping me up to date - I didn't watch at all, almost all of Sat and Sun & didn't catch DC in Baghdad. From what you say, as an experienced watcher, it sounds tense & a bit troubling.. As you say, Sky will expect more from him - getting out and about, unlike the other two. Good luck DC.

Was he around at all today? I had to go out again.. tsk.

I'm sure if it was critical for Dc to be in Baghdad, then he would have been. If they've had to take a decision similar to needing to be in Iraq and possibly weighing up the security situation further north and maybe DC's/the team's worrys about being in Baghdad. ..then fair play to them.. get the balance right and don't get kidnapped or worse. Do we want to see good reports or merely DC as a talking head, not getting out there finding things out..?

That was just rhetorical really, I don't need an answer - we know who the real fans are and what they want

talking of 'talking heads' TV, yesterday was just that. Butler uninterrupted all day (ok except for 1 min on superbugs). Classic how only a Brit civil service mandarin could produce a report that everyone from all sides of the issue claimed vindicated them...masterful. Anyhow, IS David still in Baghdad?

Yesterday the other networks - and Sky's website - carried news of a major suicide bombing in central Baghdad's green zone, the assassination of the governor of Mosul and the beheading of a Bulgarian contractor by supposed Al Qaeda affiliates in Iraq.

Excuse me if I'm wrong as I only watched Live at Five, but as far as I could see, Sky News didn't cross once, even for only a few minutes to David in Baghdad.

So what's the point of being there (if he is) ? I would also have liked to have heard his views on WMD ever being there.

I just saw a short clip on CNN (guess who wants her intl news when only got 5 mins!!) showing some nervy and relieved looking passengers (mainly journos, NGO workers & businessmen) getting off a plane in Amman which had flown from Baghdad. Apparently Royal Jordanian's flying there now. Gulp. Anyhow, wondered if he'd caught the plane out this time. Wonder which is more scary; that or the car drive? Pls keep me posted, thanks !
