Had a lecture from a Sky News man today who commented on the future of Sky News...

...

> Date for relaunch of new look Sky News (tentative to builders finishing) is October 2005 at the moment

The guy was a man named Rob Kirk who is a senior Home News editor at Sky News and also head of Editorial Development.

This is all information I have already divulged earlier in the thread.

Obviously I cannot vouch for the reliability of this source - I can only tell you what I have been told.

It does make sense though, as the last relaunch took place in October.

I might expect a graphics change when the election is announced next month - as happened in 2001, although I'm fairly certain they wouldn't move to their new studios this soon.

October seems an awful long way off, especially seeing as they have completed Five News' studio (I know it is on a much smaller and less significant scale) but 10 months extra? Seems a bit odd. Maybe they will launch the studios and new schedule at different times.

Any ideas Daved2424?

When is the "redevelopment" planning to happen? How and where is Sky News going to broadcast?

Like it has been said many times on these fora, the new studio is likely to be ready sometime in June/July.

Looks like Sky News will launch its new studio in June.

Taken from MediaGuardian:

Sky News has signalled its intent to compete more strongly for scoops by hiring a former Newsnight and Tonight with Trevor McDonald producer with a track record in securing exclusive interviews.

Gideon Joseph will join Sky News in June as an executive producer with a brief to secure "big interviews and exclusive features", according to the head of Sky News, Nick Pollard.

Mr Joseph will arrive at Sky News just as it relaunches following the general election. The service will move to a new studio and Mr Pollard has promised to replace rolling news in the evening schedule with more long-form programming.
