Good media roundup from Steven - that's precisely what happened - Sky once again broke the news first.

Brian Hanrahan broke it on News24, live in Rome. I was watching Click Online and someone shouted to tell me Paula was breaking the news. Five had a news prog scheduled for 2100 - which came on air early I think and had an obit and bad graphic with the breaking news on it.

BBC One aired a BBC News Special Report with Darren Jordan and Jeremy Bowen in Rome after Casualty at 2110.

Five News was the first terrestrial channel to break the news about the pope's death. Stuart Ramsay was live from Rome.

Sky Sports News also broke the news on their breaking news ticker: " The pope has died - Full coverage on Sky News"

Good stuff from BskyB.

Tony Blair and the Queen have released statements. George Bush is set to do the same at 10pm.

Good stuff from BskyB, except they seem to have a real problem with reversing vehicles (or something?!) near their broadcast point. The beepbeepbeep in the background isn't what they need at all.

2am: Allan King has left, Gordon Radleigh and Paula Midlehurst anchoring. Not sure if Alistair Bruce has also gone. Does anyone know what time Jeremy Thompson/Anna Botting and Martin Stanford stopped anchoring the coverage? I dont think Sky have taken a break yet.
