ITV News has announced that Tim Singleton has been promoted to Deputy Editor, alongside his present duties as Director of Newsgathering.
Currently responsible for all home and foreign newsgathering operations, Singleton will work closely with Editor Geoff Hill building on ITV News’ reputation for distinctive content and award-winning journalism.
“I’m delighted that Tim has accepted his new role as Deputy Editor,” said Geoff Hill, ITV News Editor.
“He is an incredibly talented and competitive journalist with a sharp, strategic mind and a shelf full of the most prestigious BAFTA, Emmy and RTS awards to prove it. He is uniquely qualified to take up this role at such a crucial time.”
Tim started his career in regional newspapers before joining ITV Yorkshire in 1992. Following his move to ITV network news in 1998 as Deputy News Editor, he has worked in the field across the world on a number of major breaking stories such as the second Gulf War, the Asian Tsunami, war in Kosovo, the civil war in Baghdad and earthquakes in India and Turkey. Next, Tim became Westminster News Editor where he drove campaign coverage of the 2005 general election, before being promoted to Foreign Editor later that year.
Tim Singleton said: “To help lead a team as talented as this one is a rare privilege. I have always been lucky to be surrounded by some of the finest journalists in the broadcast and digital world at ITV News and I am determined to carry on giving them the platform to do what they do best.”
Tim has played a fundamental role in securing a number of Emmy, Royal Television Society and Foreign Press Association award wins, as well as an unprecedented three BAFTAs in a row, for coverage of the earthquakes in China and Haiti and the Cumbria murders.
