Andrew Hawken appointed by Sky News

Andrew Hawken has been appointed Head of Digital Media for Sky News, working across all its digital platforms – Skynews.com, interactive TV, Sky News mobile services, and the recently launched Sky News for iPad.

Andrew will work with the channel’s editorial and technical teams as they continue to develop the channel’s multi-platform offerings. He will oversee Sky News’ award-winning website Skynews.com, and mobile services, including the RTS award-winning iPhone app, now downloaded over two and a half million times, and named in Apple’s top ten free UK apps of all time. Andrew will also be responsible for Sky News for iPad – a ground-breaking app that allows users to fully immerse themselves in their chosen stories via live video, expert analysis and rich interactive graphics.

Head of Sky News, John Ryley, said: “Andrew’s huge wealth of editorial and new media experience puts him in prime position to drive forward Sky News’ digital offering. Sky News has always been at the forefront of the digital media arena and I’m confident Andrew will guarantee its future success.”

Andrew joined BSkyB as Editorial Director for Sky’s online portal in October 2006. During his time in the role, Andrew helped to grow unique users across the network by nearly 50 per cent to over 10 million per month, making it one of the most popular network of websites in the UK. Andrew has over 28 years experience in journalism, including a ground-breaking stint as general manager of
MSN.com, where he was in charge of editorial, planning and product development for the homepage.
