TV Bafta for Sir Trevor McDonald

Sir Trevor McDonald is to be given a major honour at this year’s Television Baftas.

The former News At Ten and Tonight presenter will be given the Academy Fellowship at the awards on Sunday.

Sir Trevor McDonald said: “This is a magnificent surprise. I am honoured and absolutely delighted to join such a distinguished list of previous recipients.”

In the news coverage category the BBC has been nominated for the ‘Handover of Power’.

ITV News at Ten is nominated for their coverage of the ‘Cumbria Murders’.

Sky News has been nominated for the recent coverage of the ‘Egypt crisis’.

And Channel 4 News for their report ‘From Chile’s Ecstasy to Congo’s Agony’.

In the sports category – BBC Sport has received 3 nominations for Six Nations rugby – Wales V England, Formula 1 – The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and Wimbledon 2010.

And ITV Sport are nominated for their FA Cup Final coverage between Chelsea v Portsmouth.

The Awards take place this Sunday evening.
