William and Kate: The Royal Engagement

On Tuesday 16th November, it was announced that Prince William and Kate Middleton were engaged. The BBC News Channel was the first to provide in-depth coverage of the breaking story, with BBC One joining them at around midday to provide a special programme.

Over on ITV 1, this morining discussed the story alongside their royal correspondent. Sky news too provided specialist reports.

Come evening, ITV News scooped an exclusive interview the the husband and wife to be – a world exclusive. The ITV News at 6:30 was extended to make way for the interview, and an extended ITV News at Ten was also scheduled. Broadcaster also showed the interview at 7pm. All The One Show on BBC one, the BBC News Channel, ITV 1, Sky News, Living showed the interview in full, aswell as C4, and five showing highlights.

Despite being an ITV News exclusive, the BBC won the ratings during the 7pm slot.
