Sky News is expanding its editorial team in the Middle East with two key appointments.

Former Al Jazeera presenter, Sherine Tadros, joins Sky as new Middle East Correspondent and Tom Rayner, currently Middle East News Editor for Sky News, is appointed Middle East Reporter.

Sherine will be based in Cairo but will cover stories from across the region, as well as working closely with Sky News’ sister station Sky News Arabia.

Tom will be based in Israel and will also be deployed across the region.

Sherine covered the recent Arab Spring uprisings in Egypt, Libya and Yemen, as well as being one of only two foreign journalists covering the Gaza war in 2008-2009 from inside Gaza. Tom recently led Sky’s coverage of the death of former Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon.

“I am delighted to make these two appointments,” said Dan Williams, Head of International News at Sky News.

“Egypt is now at the very heart of the Middle East story and we will get enormous benefit from having a permanent presence there. Sherine is an award winning journalist with a proven track record of delivering world-class coverage. Tom, in the eighteen months he has been based in the region, has already made a significant impact. Together I know they will take our coverage from strength to strength.”

Sherine added: “This is a period of historic transformation across the Middle East and I am honoured and excited to be part of a network that aims to deliver informed, compelling coverage at this crucial time.”

She’ll begin her new role at the beginning of May.
