Andy Bonner – Q&A

Name?
Andy Bonner

Age?
33

Where are you from?
Merseyside

How did you get started in broadcasting?
Hospital Radio.

When was that?
1991

Why News Broadcasting?
More exciting, often more creative and better job prospects

Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
Local radio (MFM, Marcher Gold, Coast FM, Radio City, Wire FM, TFM) and Channel One Liverpool (cable tv)

What is your Best on-air moment?
Saying “goodbye” at the end of my first bulletin – the relief was immense!

What is your Worst on-air moment?
Completely forgetting what I had to say during a live for Granada Reports at Goodison Park. It was about six years ago, but it still gives me nightmares!

What would you like to do before your career ends?
Present more.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Hospital radio still plays an important part in my life. It provides an important service and I didn’t want to just use it as a stepping stone. I dabble in creating websites and enjoy photography and reading.

What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Decide what you want to do and don’t give up until you get it. Too many people say they just want to work in TV – no one will respect you for that. Choose a discipline and stick to it – at least until you’ve got your foot in the door!
