Where are you from?
How did you get started in Broadcasting?
In radio as a student and then with BBC Radio Cornwall
When was that?
Why News broadcasting?
Because of the variety – every day is a blank sheet of paper…and when the day is over it’s old news and time to move on to the next assignment.
Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
As a reporter and presenter with BBC Look East or BBC Spotlight in the South West.
What is your Best on-air moment?
Doing a piece to camera in the rear seat of an ex-red arrow jet owned by a businessman (and landing safely despite the pilot having failed to get into the RAF twice because of his poor eyesight)
What is your Worst on-air moment?
Reading the weather as Matchy pist and drivel
What would you like to do before your career ends?
Plead and beg with whoever was trying to end it.
What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the news broadcasting world?
Try plumbing – the man who fitted my new heating boiler told me he’s on 100 grand a year! But if you are determined to get into broadcasting get involved with your local hospital/college/local radio station. Work for free, make the tea, keep asking questions. Consider getting a degree and then doing a post grad diploma in journalism. Be polite but persistent.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Fret about paying too much for my new boiler.
A big thanks to Jonathan for taking part.
