Where are you from?
I was born in New York, brought up in Essex, and now live in Wales.
How did you get started in broadcasting?
By accident…..after doing a degree in Geography, I trained to be a music producer. I then got a job making packages for Radio Wales in Cardiff, and from there I moved to BBC Sport in London, mainly working on the production side of things for Radio 5 Live. A couple of years later I did a screen test for a news and sport programme in Wales, and that proved to be the platform for me to move to News 24. I couldn’t have planned it any better.
When was that?
Between 1998 and 2006.
Why Sports News broadcasting?
Sport is my hobby, so there couldn’t be a better job.
Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
Wales today and Sport Extra.
What is your Best on-air moment?
Ending a sport bulletin and handing to Nelson Mandela at the Live 8 concert in South Africa.
What is your Worst on-air moment?
Probably my first few programmes….thankfully I’ve improved.
What would you like to do before your career ends?
In broadcasting – report from a football, rugby and cricket world cup, and an Olympics. Away from broadcasting – produce an Outkast album.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Go to the beach with my family, and if the weather’s bad, write and produce music on my PC.
What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Stick at it, and don’t be afraid to move around.
