Where are you from?
Sway – a little village in the New Forest.
How did you get started in Broadcasting?
I joined the Met Office thinking I’d get sent to an RAF base, but instead I did a screen test and got sent to the BBC.
When was that?
Why news/weather broadcasting?
I never planned to get here! I did a Physics degree and had no idea what to do with it. I saw an advert for the Met Office asking for Physicists and thought it might be fun.
Where else would have viewers seen or heard you before?
I used to work at BBC Bristol, so have been on Points West, the regional news programme. I also used to broadcast on the BBC radio stations in the area: Radio Bristol, Swindon Sound, Wiltshire Sound, Somerset Sound. I also filled in for a week at BBC South. Other than that, there’s a little weather slot that I do on a Monday and Friday for my friend at Bath FM.
What is your Best on-air moment?
I love doing outside broadcasts, so my best moment would have to be one of them. Probably would be either at Glastonbury or at Cardiff for the FA Cup Final.
What is your Worst on-air moment?
There have been many seat-of-pants moments, but probably my first ever broadcast on Sky and I forgotten my clicker. Blind panic followed and I looked very much like a startled rabbit. At least things could only get better.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like music and spend a lot of time going to see bands. At the moment I have tickets to see Feeder and Muse. Other than that, it’s just the usual – going out and meeting friends for a drink or ten.
What advice would you give to anyone that would like to get into the broadcasting world?
Keep trying. I know you’ll have heard it a million times before, but it really is the only way.
A big thanks to Steff for taking part.
