Sky News Wins International Emmy Award

A Sky News report on the Taliban’s control of large parts of Pakistan has won recognition from the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Sky News has won an International Emmy Award for a report it broadcast about the Taliban’s control of large parts of Pakistan.

The digital TV channel beat off competition from Qatar’s Al Jazeera English, Russia’s the RT Channel and TV Globo from Brazil to scoop the gong in the news category at the ceremony, which took place at the Lincoln Center in New York last night (September 27th 2010).

Sky News won the plaudits for a March 2009 piece, in which chief correspondent Stuart Ramsey became the first overseas journalist to enter the Swat Valley following its occupation by Taliban forces, reports the Associated Press.

Bruce Paisner, president and chief executive of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, congratulated the teams responsible for all the winning reports.

“Despite the danger surrounding them, they are committed to journalistic excellence and we are pleased to be recognising their outstanding work with an Emmy,” he remarked.
