The 2017 Open Championship – the third golf major of the year – will be held from Thursday 20th July – Sunday 23rd July at Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport, England.
It will be the 146th Open Championship, and the tenth played at Royal Birkdale, which held its first in 1954.
This time 12 months ago, Henrik Stenson secured a dominant victory at Royal Troon, registering an Open Championship record score of 20 under par.
Stenson became the fourth man over 40 to win the Claret Jug in the last six years, following Northern Ireland’s Darren Clarke, Ernie Els and Phil Mickelson.
Mark O’Meara’s opening tee-shot will be shown live on Sky Sports Golf from 6.30am on Thursday, with coverage running through until 9pm for the first two rounds.
A further two 12-hour sessions of live coverage takes place over the weekend.
Extended highlights and analysis will be available in a live verdict show reviewing each day’s play, while a special round up on Monday, ‘How The Open Was Won’, will look back at all the key moments from the week.
The two-hour highlights programme start at 8pm, Thursday-Sunday on BBC Two.
This is the first year that the prize money will be paid in United States dollars, rather than British pounds.
