BT, Sky Sports announce Premier League TV fixtures for 2016/17

BT Sport and Sky Sports have announced the first batch of Premier League fixtures to be shown live on their networks for the 2016/17 season.

Leicester City will kick off the new season live on Sky Sports, as Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes begin the defence of their title away to newly promoted Hull City (13 August, 12.30pm) in the first of 126 live matches to be shown live on Sky Sports this season.

BT Sport’s season begins with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City taking on Sunderland at the Etihad (13 August, 5.30pm). The new manager of the blue side of Manchester, who has had highly successful spells at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, will be aiming for the perfect start and the media will be watching his every move.

The opening weekend also offers Sky Sports viewers coverage of José Mourinho’s first game in charge of Manchester United at Bournemouth, Arsenal v Liverpool in the first big head to head of the season, plus Antonio Conte’s Chelsea at home to West Ham United.

The first ever ‘Friday Night Football’ will be in the second week of the season, as Manchester United fans welcome José Mourinho to Old Trafford for their home fixture against Southampton. The much anticipated Manchester derby involving Mourinho and Pep Guardiola will also be live on Sky Sports.

Sky Sports Managing Director Barney Francis said: “It’s our biggest season ever. Our opening set of fixtures offers our viewers some mouth-watering fixtures and we’ll show every club at least once by the end of September.

“Our coverage keeps on getting better. This season we have new shows including Friday Night Football, live matches at 3pm for viewers in Ireland, and from 5.15pm our customers can watch all the goals from Saturday’s matches on their mobile devices.”

This season BT Sport will broadcast the majority of their games on Saturday evenings at 5.30pm. The first two months will see teams who finished in the top four battle it out as well as games involving Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United and Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “Football fans can look forward to an exciting start to the Premier League season on BT Sport. We will now be broadcasting matches at 5.30pm on Saturday evenings and these opening games include the first Premier League match for Pep Guardiola, as well as chances to see how Manchester United, Chelsea and Everton perform under their new managers Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Ronald Koeman respectively.

“Three of the four English teams competing in this season’s UEFA Champions League will be shown on BT Sport in the opening weeks of the season and they will also be seen exclusively live on BT Sport once their European campaigns begin.”
