World Cup 2018 continues today as France take on Peru in the countries’ second Group C fixture at the Ekaterinburg Arena.
Les Bleus were unconvincing in their opening game against Australia in Kazan on Saturday, but managed to eke out a 2-1 victory to get their campaign off to a good start.
By contrast, Peru lost a tight match against Denmark 1-0, with Christian Cueva’s first-half penalty miss proving costly.
France reached the quarter-finals in Brazil four years ago, but were defeated 1-0 by eventual champions Germany, with Mats Hummels’ early header from a Toni Kroos free-kick enough to seal victory.
Peru have not appeared at the finals since the 1982 tournament in Spain, where they finished bottom of Group 1 following draws with Cameroon and eventual champions Italy, and a heavy 5-1 defeat to Poland.
The one and only previous meeting between these countries coincidentally came that same year, in a World Cup warm-up friendly match at the Parc des Princes in Paris.
Juan Carlos Oblitas scored the only goal of the game for Peru, with the French team featuring the likes of Michel Platini and Jean Tigana.
Mark Pougatch will be live on ITV and ITV HD from 3.15pm, where he’ll be joined in the studio by Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs and Patrice Evra.
Match commentary comes from Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon.
Kick-off 4.00pm
The match will also be streamed live via the ITV Hub.
