Manchester United v Southampton – Live TV Coverage on Sky Sports; Highlights on Channel 5

Manchester United face Southampton in the English Football League Cup Final this afternoon.

The match takes place at Wembley Stadium, as the first major silverware of the season is awarded.

This is only Saints’ second-ever appearance in the final of this competition, and their first since a 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest back in 1979.

United last made the final in 2010, when they came from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 and win the trophy for the fourth time.

This is the second time these sides have met in the final of a competition, having played each other in the 1976 FA Cup final.

Southampton, then a second-tier side, defeated United 1-0 thanks to a Bobby Stokes goal. It remains the only time they have won a major English trophy.

Coverage begin at 3.45pm on Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 1 HD, kick-off 4.30pm.

Free-to-air highlights will be shown on Channel 5 from 8.15pm this evening, presented by Lynsey Hipgrave and George Riley.
