England take on Scotland in Six Nations 2016 this afternoon – live on the BBC.
It’s one of two matches to take place today, live on the BBC, with the third fixture of opening weekend taking place on Sunday afternoon with live coverage on ITV.
Today’s Calcutta Cup tie between Scotland and England is staged at Murrayfield where the rivals play their first match of this year’s tournament.
Scotland’s record in this fixture in recent years is quite dismal, but this year they can enter the encounter with confidence following a much-improved showing at the 2015 World Cup and the undoubted progress made under coach Vern Cotter.
England, in contrast, are starting over again following their early exit from that tournament, which resulted in Eddie Jones taking over as coach from Stuart Lancaster, and Jones has named an exciting, new-look squad captained by hooker Dylan Hartley, which initially he will hope avoids a first defeat to the Scots since 2008.
Match coverage starts at 4.25pm on BBC One and BBC One HD with live streaming on the BBC Sport website. Kick-off 4.50pm.
John Inverdale will be joined in the studio by Mike Tindall, Andy Nicol and Jeremy Guscott while Andrew Cotter, Brian Moore and Chris Paterson provide match commentary.
